Saudi win over Argentina: match review

The Saudi national team achieved a historic victory by beating Argentina 2-1 today, Tuesday, in the group stage competitions for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Saudi coach Herve Renard relied on a 4-1-4-1 style of play, with Al Owais in the goalkeeper, in front of him were Timbukti, Al Bulayhi, Saud Abdul Hamid and Yasser Al Shahrani.

Al-Maliki was present as a pivot player, in front of him was Muhammad Kno and Al-Faraj, on the right was Al-Buraikan, on the left was Al-Dosari, and in front was Saleh Al-Shehri.

As for Scaloni, the Argentine coach, he resorted to a playing style (4-4-2) with Martinez in the goalkeeper, in front of him Romero, Otamendi, Molina and Tagliafico.

In the middle of the field, De Paul, Paredes, Di Maria and Gomez were present, and in front of Lautaro Martinez and Lionel Messi.

The Saudi national team entered the first half with great confidence, and Renard relied on narrowing the spaces between the lines to close all passing spaces in front of Messi.

And forced Renard, Argentina, to resort to long balls behind the backs, which did not prove any offensive effectiveness of Tango.

Saudi Arabia also relied clearly on advanced defense, entrapping Argentine players in the offside trap, and Al-Akhdar mastered that plan, as Argentina fell 7 times in the offside trap, and this caused the cancellation of 3 goals.

Saudi Arabia showed a great club in the first half and had possession for long periods after conceding the goal.

The duo, Saud Abdel Hamid and Al-Buraikan, formed a distinguished right front that was the most dangerous throughout the half, but the final touch was absent in creating opportunities for Al-Shehri.

Saudi Arabia started the second half strongly, and relied on the confusion of the heart of the Argentine defense, taking advantage of the skill of Al-Dosari and Al-Shehri, which was absent in the first half.

The skill of Al-Dosari and Al-Shehri appeared at the decisive time, so that Saudi Arabia scored an early double in the second half, to change the style of play of the two teams with it.

And the Saudi method changed from advanced defense and high pressure, to a defensive bloc and the presence of all players behind the ball, in an attempt to preserve the score, and the fighting spirit was the most prominent feature of Saudi Arabia during the second half.

Confusion appeared on Argentina and Scaloni, and he was unable to change the style of play or create chances, despite Saudi Arabia leaving him possession of the ball.

And the Argentine attacks seemed to depend on randomness, so that Saudi Arabia would eventually succeed in achieving a historic victory.
